The Best Cupcakes in New York City

If you love cupcakes, New York City is the place to be! There are a lot of good cupcake shops here however if you are looking for the best, we are here to help. Here are the best cupcakes in New York City including some that are off the beaten path.

Butter Lane Bakery – 123 E 7th St
If you are in or around the East Village, you have to visit Butter Lane. Butter Lane specializes in and only sells cupcakes. It goes without saying, they are truly masters of their craft. Specifically, we just can’t have enough of their banana cupcakes. They also offer cupcake baking classes!

Molly’s Cupcakes – 228 Bleecker St
Across the city you have Molly’s Cupcakes in the West Village. They are the winners of Cupcake Wars and with one bite of their cupcakes you will easily see why. You can’t go wrong with any of their cupcakes but if it is your first visit, try their classic vanilla or chocolate cupcakes.

Two Little Red Hens – 1652 2nd Ave
If you love chocolate, the Brooklyn Blackout Cupcake is absolutely perfect. It is chocolate on chocolate on top of chocolate. It starts with a chocolate cake filled with chocolate pudding and topped with chocolate frosting. It is SOOOOO delicious!

City Cakes – 251 W 18th St
We can’t resist a good red velvet cupcake and our pick for the best red velvet cupcake is from City Cakes. It has a nice rich and moist cake and has an airy cream cheese frosting. Mmm… we are getting hungry thinking about it.

Butter & Scotch – Smorgasburg
Mini cupcakes are all the rage ever since Baked By Melissa exploded in popularity. We tried Butter & Scotch’s maple bacon mini cupcakes at the Grub Street Food Festival and we were in love. It is heaven in a bite. They are opening a location in Crown Heights, Brooklyn but right now you can find them at the Smorgasburg and similar events across New York City.

Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery – 126 Rivington St
Sugar Sweet Sunshine’s cupcakes are quite addictive and they are a great bargain (only $2 a cupcake). Some cupcakes that we always order are Ooey Gooey (chocolate cake topped with chocolate almond buttercream), Sassy Red Velvet (red velvet cake topped with chocolate almond buttercream), Pistachio and the Holla Back Girl (banana cake topped with cream cheese icing).
