Spring officially starts on March 20th but we hope the warmer weather comes sooner! Spring is easily our favorite season of the year since there is so much to do and so much to see in New York City. So with everything from flower shows to foodie fairs, here are 7 fun things to do in New York City in spring 2022.

Check Out the Flower Shows

One of the first things that comes to mind when you think about spring is all the beautiful blooming flowers! The best way to see these flowers in New York City is the annual flower shows and events like The Orchid Show (New York Botanical Garden, February 26- May 1), Macy’s Flower Show (Macy’s Herald Square, late March to early April) and the Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival (Brooklyn Botanic Garden, late April). All of these events are fun family outings.

Enjoy Outdoor Dining Again

Warmer weather means you can finally take advantage of all the outdoor dining options (aka al fresco dining) in New York City again! NYC has almost every cuisine you can imagine represented and this spring is a great time to try somewhere new. We are making our list of must try restaurants in the coming months and we are finding that many of them do offer some sort of outdoor dining option.

Get Lunch or Dinner at an Outdoor Food Festival or Fair

Similarly we are excited about all the outdoor food festivals and fairs coming back too. Some of our favorites include Smorgasburg, Hester Street Fair and Queens Night Market and they all should be opening soon. We find these food festivals and fairs are perfect for foodies and adventurous eaters since you can always find something new and interesting to try.

Go on an Ahoy New York Food Tour

The spring is also the perfect time to go on an Ahoy New York food tour. There are two fun food tours. The Chinatown and Little Italy Food Fest explores the history and the food of these two fascinating neighborhoods and Taste of Mulberry Street – A Culinary Journey celebrates the diverse cuisines that you can find in one of the most interesting streets in NYC. Both tours offer plenty of yummy tastings so they are fun foodie things that you can enjoy with your friends and family.

Take Advantage of the Parks

New York City is also renowned for its world class parks and visiting Central Park, Prospect Park, Bryant Park, Little Island, Governors Island and more can help you recuperate from being cooped up indoors all winter. There is so much to do like organizing a picnic, renting a bike or boat or just taking a relaxing stroll.

Celebrate Easter

Easter is right around the corner (April 17) and one of the best ways to celebrate Easter in New York City is checking out the Easter Parade & Bonnet Festival. It is a tradition dating back to the 1870’s and it is known for its parade goers walking down Fifth Avenue with their outrageous bonnets. It is quite the sight and a lot of fun! Also there will be Easter egg hunts all over the city so keep an eye out for them too.

Visit Japan Village

Finally Japan Village in Industry City recently expanded and they offer a bunch of unique shopping opportunities with many Japanese products for sale that are hard to find elsewhere. Also be sure to come hungry as there are also an amazing Japanese supermarket and food hall that have a ton of yummy options to try. Japan Village has quickly become a go to place to celebrate Japanese culture and cuisine.
