Mother’s Day Gift Ideas in New York City

on May 1, 2015

Mother’s Day is May 10th this year which is only a few short days away. Not sure what to buy for your mom, wife, sister or friend? If you are still looking for something special and still looking for Mother’s Day gift ideas in New York City, we are here to help! We especially have a lot of gift ideas for foodies.

A Broadway play
Broadway is the center of the theater world so how about taking your mom to a Broadway play? Some good choices include Jersey Boys, Aladdin and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Keep an eye out for the TKTS booth for great deals if you are flexible.

A relaxing Sunday brunch
One of our favorite brunch spots in New York City is Lafayette (380 Lafayette St) near SoHo. Other places to consider include Robert (2 Columbus Cir) and Sarabeth’s (40 Central Park S). They both have great views of the city and it is sure to be a memorable experience.

Ahoy New York’s walking food tour of Chinatown and Little Italy
Ahoy New York’s walking food tour is the best way to explore the culture, history and cuisine of Chinatown and Little Italy. Between the delicious, creamy mozzarella and the scrumptious original egg rolls, it is sure to be a great time for the whole family. Use the code NTAHNY12 before Mother’s Day and get 20% off 2 or more tickets or gift certificates to our NYC food tour. You can’t beat that!

Cook an authentic Italian meal
If you want to do something with a personal touch, how about cooking her an authentic Italian feast? Di Palo’s Fine Foods (200 Grand St), Piemonte Ravioli (190 Grand St) and Alleva Dairy (188 Grand St) in Little Italy are all invaluable resources. Be sure to also check out our blog post of where you can get fresh pasta in NYC. Finally, maybe you can also pick up some cannoli from Ferrara Bakery & Cafe (195 Grand St) for dessert.

Family style dining in Chinatown
Family style dining where everyone shares and the food as it goes around the table is another great option for dinner. Some of our favorite restaurants in Chinatown with family style dining include Amazing 66 (66 Mott St), Ping’s Seafood (22 Mott St) and Cafe Hong Kong (51 Bayard St).

Cupcake or pizza making classes
If making cupcakes or pizza, sounds like a ton of fun then classes can be a great way to spend the day. Butter Lane (123 E 7th St) has cupcake making classes and Pizza a Casa Pizza School (371 Grand St) has pizza making classes. We recommend both.

A selection of colorful macarons
Macarons are an addictive French treat. Our favorite spot for macarons is Mille-feuille Bakery Cafe (552 LaGuardia Pl) and for more unusual macarons like candied bacon with maple cream cheese, we love the Macaron Parlour (111 St Marks Pl & 560 Columbus Ave). But there are a ton of other options all over the city and here are some of the best French bakeries in New York City.

A wine and cheese tasting cruise with Classic Harbor Line
If you looking for something a bit unusual, a wine and cheese tasting cruise with Classic Harbor Line is a nice one day vacation. Who doesn’t enjoy sipping wine, tasting cheese and taking in the Manhattan skyline?

Afternoon high tea at the Pembroke Room at the Lowell Hotel
The Pembroke Room at the Lowell Hotel (28 E 63rd St) is one of the few formal tea rooms in New York City. It is a magical, serene place where you can sit down, relax and enjoy a top notch cup of tea, finger sandwiches and more with your mom.

A shopping trip
Finally, maybe a shopping trip for Mother’s Day is in order? Brookfield Place (200 Vesey St) is a beautiful new mall in Battery Park and Le District, (often described as the “French Eataly”) and Hudson Eats, (our favorite food court) are in the same building. Also, if your mom is a foodie, Chelsea Market (75 9th Ave) and Essex Street Market (120 Essex St) are sure to make her happy.
