Top Ten French Bakeries and Pastry Shops in New York City

Here at Ahoy New York dessert is just about our favorite meal of the day! Cookies, macrons, tarts, croissants… yes please! With that in mind, here are our top ten French bakeries and pastry shops in New York City.

Ceci-Cela – 55 Spring St
Ceci-Cela is known for their croissants and our favorite has to be the chocolate croissant with all of its flaky goodness. It is a great place to stop for a snack in the always bustling SoHo.

Balthazar Bakery – 80 Spring St
Another bakery in SoHo is Balthazar. Balthazar has all the quintessential French pastry favorites and some uniquely New York items like their mini pistachio doughnuts.

La Maison du Macaron – 132 W 23rd St
With macarons and treats of all sorts of flavors and variety, a trip to La Maison du Macaron is an absolute delight. Their showcase is truly a sight to behold and it goes without saying that their macarons are heaven in a bite.

Maison Kayser – 1294 3rd Ave at 74th St
Maison Kayser is new to New York City but it is very popular in France. It really has been a real treat for New Yorkers. Maison Kayser brings all sorts of goodies from France such as their chocolate almond croissant and their luscious fruit tarts.

Francois Payard Bakery – 3 Columbus Circle & Other Locations
There are Francois Payard Bakeries all over the world. Their desserts are absolutely divine especially their macaron ice cream sandwiches which come in flavors like pistachio macaron with raspberry ice cream and berry macaron with a strawberry cheesecake filling. Honestly we can’t make up our minds which one is our favorite so try them all!

Dominique Ansel Bakery – 189 Spring St
Dominique Ansel Bakery’s pastries are delish! Their DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann) especially is perhaps one of the best things that we have ever eaten. It is a croissant like biscuit with a caramelized crunchy crust.

Bouchon Bakery – 10 Columbus Circle 3 Fl & One Rockefeller Plaza
Bouchon Bakery usually attracts crowds of people with their array of cookies, macrons and tarts. Their take on classic childhood cookies like the oreo and the nutter butter sparked our attention the most on our recent visit and they are insanely delicious.

Mille-feuille – 552 Laguardia Pl
A little word of warning… a box of macarons from Mille-feuille left on the dining room table would be easily gone in a minute. We learned that lesson the hard way…

Financier Patisserie – 90 Nassau St & Other Locations
Financier has a number of locations around the city and their pastries are top notch. One cake to look out for is their Fraisier cake. It is similar to a strawberry short cake and then you hit the layer of pistachios which is an unexpected goodness when you try it for the first time.

Tous Les Jours – 31 W 32nd St
In Koreatown, there is Tous Les Jours, a sort of Korean- French bakery. There are so many choices here so you will be wandering around for a while. We went with the cheesecake and strawberry short cake and it was everything we expected it to be and more!
