Fun Things to Do in New York City During the Fourth of July, 2020

The summer is finally here and July 4th is right around the corner. We all have our summer and July 4th weekend traditions but unfortunately we might have to make some changes this year. Still though, you can have a lot of fun and stay safe. Here are some fun things to do in New York City during the Fourth of July, 2020.

Order Takeout from Local Restaurants

We normally do a lot of cooking on July 4th, like making ribs, hot dogs, chicken wings and more. But this year we will be ordering takeout from some of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood just to support the mom and pop places during these hard times. What is great about New York City is there are so many great options. Every cuisine is represented here so there is something for everyone. You can check out our other blog posts for some yummy recommendations.

Relax at NYC Parks and Beaches

One of the best things about New York City is its parks, beaches and public spaces. Although some of the bigger parks and beaches like Central Park, Battery Park, Prospect Park and Coney Island Beach will definitely be crowded on the fourth of July weekend but there are a lot of other parks and public spaces off the beaten path. For example, one park we recently discovered is a quiet place by the waterfront near Wall Street. There are plenty of options all across the city and maybe this year is a great time to check out somewhere new!

Do Some Outdoor Dining or Organize a Picnic

We really miss dining outside and by July 4th there should be some outdoor seating available for restaurants in New York City. But this seating is definitely going to be limited so organizing a picnic at a park is another great option.

Check Out the Skyline Drive-In Outdoor Theater

One of our July 4th traditions has always been watching a movie in theaters but unfortunately they are all still closed. One exciting new option is the Skyline Drive-In movie experience. Yes, there is an outdoor drive-in movie theater in New York City! It is located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and it has Manhattan’s skyline in the background. If you don’t have a car, there is also some limited seating available.

Organize a Game Night

A board game night is a lot of fun. Looking for a super easy way to host one? Get our NYC Game Night Kit. It has everything you need including 3 NYC themed games, 2 card games (Stand Clear of the Closing Doors and BP Rummy) and a fun Bingo game. All these games are easy to learn and fun for the whole family. Snacks are included too.

Watch the 2020 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

Finally there is no better way to end the night than watching the fireworks with friends and family. The fireworks light up the city skyline and can be seen all over the city. We watch it every year and it won’t stop this year!
