Seven Fun Things to Do in New York City This Summer

Summer is finally here and New York City is full of excitement and buzzing with energy! There is no better time to start planning your summer to do list and to help, here are seven fun things to do in New York City summer 2017. Best of all, many of these activities are free or just a great deal all around.

Mmuseumm – All Year Round

New York City is home to a bunch of unique and interesting museums but probably one of the most unique and interesting museums is Mmuseumm (4 Cortlandt Alley). It is only the size of a freight elevator and it is located on a quiet alley on the outskirts of Chinatown. But they have some fascinating objects on display, all with a story to tell, which you can hear when you dial into their audio guide.

Coney Island & Luna Park – All Summer

Coney Island has something for everyone! Looking for thrill rides? You can ride the world famous Cyclone roller coaster in Luna Park. Want to relax by the beach? You can visit the popular Coney Island beach. Want to catch a baseball game? We highly recommend checking out the Brooklyn Cyclones in MCU Park. Looking for something to eat? You can enjoy Nathan’s Famous hot dogs by the boardwalk.

SummerStage and Other Free Concerts – All Summer

One of the best things about summer in New York City is all the free concerts! Summerstage and Celebrate Brooklyn! are the biggest concert series but there is usually a free concert every weekend throughout the summer. We like to use Oh My Rockness for a list of all the free concerts in New York City. Similarly keep an eye out for the Shakespeare In The Park plays and the NY Philharmonic concerts.

Free Movie Screenings – All Summer

Another fun thing to do in New York City that is free is all the movie screenings throughout the city. The two biggest series are the NYC Parks Presents: Free Movies Under the Stars and HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. Looking to beat the heat and stay indoors? Then you have to check out the Hudson Park Library in Greenwich Village film screenings.

Food Tour of Chinatown & Little Italy – All Year

Summer is the perfect time to explore New York City and what better way to explore two fascinating neighborhoods than Ahoy New York’s walking food tour of Chinatown & Little Italy. We also now have a new tour A Taste of Mulberry Street! It is an Italian feast with three sit down tastings and it is perfect if you are looking for a tour with less walking.

NYC Restaurant Week – July 24–August 18

Summer Streets – August 5, 12 & 19

Finally Summer Streets is an annual event that encourages people to get out and be active. Some of the free activities to look forward to include a rock climbing wall, a zipline, water slides and outdoor fitness classes. It is a lot of fun!
