New York City Business Spotlight: Di Palo’s

Di Palo’s Fine Foods (200 Grand St) is a traditional Italian specialty store located in the historic Manhattan neighborhood, Little Italy. It is a blast from the past and is run by the fourth generation of the Di Palo family. When visiting New York City you will find that shops such as this one are becoming increasingly rare. The bottom line is if you are looking to make an authentic Italian meal, Di Palo’s is truly an invaluable resource. A good quality dinner starts with good quality ingredients and they have staples such as olive oils, vinegars, and many more imported foods from Italy. With a few of these specialty items you will easily see that it makes quite a difference. Their raviolis are also top notch and they are absolutely delicious with just a bit of marinara sauce and Parmesan cheese. We encourage you to visit, even if you are uncertain of what you’d like to buy—the items behind the counter and on the shelves will inspire you to create a wonderful Italian meal.

Di Palo’s is also the premier place to find Italian cheeses in New York City. They have a great selection of cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s milk cheeses from all over the various regions of Italy. Our favorite cheeses are Piave and Moliterno which you can sample on our tour of Little Italy and Chinatown. They also have a great selection of cured meats such as prosciutto, sopressata, mortadella and more. If you are wondering where you can find a great wine to pair with these cheeses and meats, don’t worry, just next door is Enoteca Di Palo. Enoteca Di Palo sells lovely Italian wines and spirits, which also make perfect gifts. Lastly, if you have a bit of sweet tooth, they also have Italian sweets for sale such as dried baked figs, which is rare to find in New York City.

All in all, Di Palo’s Fine Foods is neighborhood gem and a one stop shop that is well worth the trip. It is a must visit for any foodie.
