Eating Healthy in New York City for $40 a Day

Whether you are a lifelong New Yorker or just visiting, finding a cheap healthy or vegetarian restaurant in New York City can sometimes be a challenge. That is why we wanted to highlight some of our favorite places and show you how you can eat healthy in NYC for $40 a day (like the old Rachael Ray show).

Breakfast:
Dimes – 143 Division St
Dimes is a tiny cafe on the outskirts of Chinatown that offers healthy and tasty options throughout their menu. In particular, their breakfast sandwich ($6.50) is especially delicious. It has scrambled eggs, avocado and pickled jalapenos. Yum! With a coffee, it will only set you back about $10 – $12. There is really no better way to start the morning!

Another Option:
Liquiteria – 170 2nd Ave & Other Locations
Another good breakfast option is the vegetable egg muffin ($5) from Liquiteria.

Lunch:
Vegetarian Dim Sum House – 24 Pell St
As the name implies, the Vegetarian Dim Sum House is the go to place for dim sum in Chinatown for vegetarians. A dim sum lunch will set you back about $10. Some dishes that we recommend include a small order of Vegetarian duck ($4.25), rice flour rolls ($2.95) and their spinach dumplings ($2.95).

Another option:
Skinny Pizza – Hudson Eats, 225 Liberty St
Hudson Eats in the Winter Garden is must visit for any foodie. Skinny Pizza’s arugula and tomato slice really hits the spot and with a drink, it is about $7.00.

Dinner:
Spring Street Natural Restaurant – 62 Spring St
Spring Street Natural Restaurant has a number of interesting salads on the menu like their quinoa salad ($16). Another good option is their organic rice and vegetable dinner. It is absolutely delicious and it surprisingly packs a lot of flavor. Dinner should be about $20.

Another Option:
The Butcher’s Daughter – 19 Kenmare St
The Butcher’s Daughter is a popular vegetarian hotspot in Nolita. You have to try their spicy kale Caesar salad. With a drink, tips and tax, it should also be about $20.
