Top Ten Outdoor Restaurants in New York City

Spring is here!  The weather in New York City has been gorgeous and who wants to waste that being cooped up indoors?  With that in mind, here are our favorite New York City outdoor restaurants.

1. The West 79th Street Boat Basin Cafe – W 79th St. at Riverside Dr.

There is nothing more relaxing and breathtaking than looking out into Hudson River with the boats going by during a sunset.  You must take it all in with one of their grilled marinated Mahi Mahi tacos.

2. Frying Pan – Pier 66 at W. 26th St. at West Side Highway

The Frying Pan is a bar and grill on a historical lightboat docked at Pier 66 and it offers another great view of the Hudson River.  The Frying Pan is usually packed but it is well worth the wait as it is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and one of their sirloin burgers.

3. Shake Shack – Madison Square Park, 23rd St. at Madison Ave. and other locations

Speaking of burgers, Shake Shack’s burgers have been the talk of the town and deserving so, their burgers are insanely good and it all started with their Madison Square Park location.  You can feast on your Shack Burger with a great view of the New York Skyline, including the Empire State Building.

4. Delicatessen – 54 Prince St.

Delicatessen, a trendy hotspot nestled in Soho, is worth all the hype and in the spring and summer months the restaurant opens up for al fresco dining.  As for their food, you must start any meal here with Cheeseburger Spring Rolls and Lobster Mac N’ Cheese.

5. Pulino’s Bar & Pizzeria – 282 Bowery

Pulino’s opened not too long ago but with pizzas like Prosciutto and Arugula, they quickly earned a sterling reputation and a loyal following.  Like Delicatessen, Pulino’s opens up during the spring and summer months, offering outdoor seating and opportunities to take in the city.

6. Sushi Samba 7 – 87 7th Ave. South

SushiSamba 7 can get crowded especially during the summer but their sushi is always top notch and super fresh.  You also have to try their miso-marinated Chilean sea bass.

7. Bobo – 181 W. 10th St. at Seventh Ave.

Bobo is a hidden gem in West Village by design (their entrance is unmarked).  Despite that, their stunning backyard along with their delicious seared scallops are a huge draw so a reservation is the safe way to go.

8. Terrazza Toscana – 742 9th Avenue

There are many options to dine near that Theater District but Terrazza Toscana stands out with their rooftop perch and their Pre-Theater Menu of Italian classics like Fusilli Siciliana and Chicken Envoltini.

9. Barolo – 398 W Broadway

Barolo’s outdoor garden dining is just one of the things that make it great.  Other things include their mozzarella appetizers and their amazing veal chops.

10. Back Forty – 190 Ave B

Back Forty’s backyard dining area is like a little oasis in the city and you can’t go wrong with ordering their fried chicken and waffles for lunch or picking up their succulent grilled grass- fed sirloin for dinner.
