Lula’s Sweet Apothecary is another 1920’s throwback that makes the best vegan ice cream in NYC.  Their soft serve cake batter ice cream is simply divine.

3. Il Laboratorio del Gelato – 188 Ludlow Street

With flavors like acacia honey, Guinness and wasabi, Jon Snyder the owner of Il Laboratorio del Gelato has been described as a mad scientist and his shop on Ludlow Street is his lab.  It is perfect for those looking for something a little different.

4. Chinatown Ice Cream Factory – 65 Bayard Street

The Chinatown Ice Cream Factory has been a mainstay in Chinatown for decades, to the delight of locals and visitors alike.  You can stick to the classics like vanilla or chocolate but they are perhaps best known for their exotic Asian flavors such as Black Sesame, Green Tea and Red Bean.

5. Momofuku Milk Bar – 251 E 13th St & Other Locations

Since their inception, there has been a lot of buzz about the Momofuku Milk Bar especially their soft serve cereal milk ice cream.  It can get crowded at times but it is well worth the wait.

6. Eileen’s Cheesecake – 17 Cleveland Place

If you are in the mood for something other than ice cream and gelato, you should definitely give Eileen’s Cheesecake a try.  Their cheesecakes are light, creamy, not too sweet, and has an awesome crust for a contrast in texture.  Their strawberry cheesecake is a classic but their Cookies N Cream cheesecake is another great option!

There has been an explosion of froyo (frozen yogurt) places in New York City the last couple of years and 16 Handles stands out from the rest with their self-serve style, allowing you to mix and match to your heart’s desire. So one can  start with a little Red Velvet and Strawberry Fields froyo topped with Reese’s peanut butter cups, maybe a couple of rainbow cookies and of course some sprinkles!
