Ahoy New York Tours and Tasting Alana 2

Hello! My name is Alana, and I am the founder of Ahoy New York Tours & Tasting. I cannot believe that it has been ten years since I started “Ahoy”! A passion of discovering NYC food and history has morphed into a successful business. I am so proud of our team and our hard work. I also would like to thank all of our “fans” and supporters out there—we would not be where we are today without you all. Here is to many more years of touring and tasting!

Favorite Cheap Eats Spot in New York City:

My favorite cheap eats spot has to be Tasty Dumpling (42 Mulberry St). Their dumplings fill you up so easily and their classic pork and chive dumplings are only 5 for $1.50. We feature these dumplings on our signature Chinatown and Little Italy tour and it is always a favorite.

Favorite Fine Dining Restaurant in New York City:

I am a huge fan of Italian food and a favorite Italian restaurant of mine is Il Cantinori (32 E 10th St # 1), located in Greenwich Village. The atmosphere is relaxing yet sophisticated with excellent service. Their pasta is made fresh daily and they have lots of special features on their menu each evening.

Favorite Guilty Pleasure:

Fried Chicken! I love a crispy fried chicken dinner with some mac n’ cheese on the side (and ok, maybe some cornbread too). A recent favorite of mine is Bobwhite Counter (94 Avenue C) in Alphabet city. A small place—but they make an excellent fried chicken and mac n’cheese. After head on over to Butter Lane Cupcakes (123 E 7th St) for a cupcake (I love their banana cupcake) OR why not splurge and go to the Big Gay Ice Cream shop (125 E 7th St) next to Butterlane as well.

Favorite Thing to Do in New York City:

Besides eating one of my favorite things to do is learn more about NYC’s rich history—in particular immigrant history. My favorite museum is the Tenement Museum (103 Orchard St ), I could go there time and time again. They also have a great visitor center with lots of great books on NYC history!

Best Tip for Visiting New York City:

Don’t try to do too much at once—go on a food tour, to learn some NYC history and enjoy great foods, see a monument, check out a museum and relax in a park—those are all great starters!
